That changes how the board should be played. In a standard match-three, three-in-a-row is always progress; here a three is often a waste of a turn when a five was available two moves away, because only the larger clears break the blocks standing in your way.
Levels are numerous and the obstacles escalate rather than the move count shrinking.

Tips & Tricks
Spend a turn setting up a five rather than taking a three. Only the large clears break blocks, and a board full of obstacles cannot be won three pieces at a time.
